Madonna playfully responds to Sabrina Carpenter’s Vogue photoshoot amid ‘lookalike’ comparisons

It only took Madonna five hours to take notice of the buzz over how much Sabrina Carpenter resembled her on the March cover of Vogue in which she donned a platinum-blonde wavy wig.

Many believed the 25-year-old pop star’s baby blue Dolce & Gabbana teddy was reminiscent of the 66-year-old Queen of Pop’s iconic Jean Paul Gaultier corset from her 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour.

Madonna was similarly scantily clad when the same exact photographer Steven Meisel shot her for the cover of Italian Vogue back in 1991.

The 70-year-old lensman also shot the seven-time Grammy winner’s 1984 Like a Virgin album cover, her 1992 Sex book, Versace’s SS/95 campaign, Louis Vuitton’s SS/09 campaign, and her 2009 Vanity Fair cover.

On Tuesday, Madonna took to Sabrina’s official Instagram account to comment with eye emojis: ‘Is this a Valentine’s present to me?’

At that, Carpenter – who boasts 99.8M social media followers – responded: ‘@madonna It sure is!’

The two-time Grammy winner’s fans had commented that they look related or as though the Material Girl had taken the fictional drug from Demi Moore’s movie The Substance in order to ‘create’ the Espresso hitmaker.

But both ladies have arguably been inspired by the original blonde bombshell, Marilyn Monroe. 

This Friday, Sabrina will release the deluxe edition of her sixth studio album Short n’ Sweet, which features none other than living legend Dolly Parton on a new version of Please Please Please.

Carpenter will then return to 30 Rock’s Studio 8H to perform on the three-hour SNL 50: The Anniversary Special, which airs live this Sunday on NBC/Peacock.

The former Disney Channel star will then be honored with the Global Success Award and perform at the 45th Brit Awards, which air March 1 on ITV.

Ironically, Sabrina will kick off the European leg of her sold out 53-date Short n’ Sweet Tour in her ex-boyfriend Barry Keoghan’s Dublin hometown at 3Arena on March 3-4.

Carpenter – who taught herself how to play piano and guitar with YouTube tutorials – has been a singer for the last decade, but her career got a major boost in 2023 while serving opening duties for Taylor Swift.

On September 30, Madonna teased new music when she revealed she was ‘back in the studio’ in London with her musical director Stuart Price.

And over a year after Universal shelved her self-directed biopic starring Julia Garner, the self-made superstar revealed in July that she and screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson were rewriting the script now called Who’s That Girl.
