80s Actress Turned Unrecognizable Snobby TV Mom

Fans of iconic ’80s hits — and a certain stylish TV series starring Blake Lively — were in for a treat when one of the era’s familiar faces was spotted out in New York City.

The actress, 67, who shot to fame with back-to-back hits like Three Men and a Baby and Melanie Griffith’s Something Wild, kept things low-key for her Big Apple stroll.

Dressed casually in a gray dress layered over leggings, the star looked worlds away from her red-carpet days alongside her Hollywood heavyweight co-stars like Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt in 1997’s The Devil’s Own.

Her off-duty look was also a far cry from her days playing Leighton Meester’s chic, high-society mom Eleanor Waldorf on Gossip Girl.

Longtime fans will also remember her turn as CBS News anchor Jane McCabe during the sixth season of Veep.

Can you guess the illustrious star?

If you said Margaret Colin, you’re right!

Back in 2010, Margaret opened up about her Gossip Girl role, reflecting on what made her character tick.

‘My favorite quality about her is that she sees the world from her own unique perspective,’ she told Hollywood The Write Way.

‘She’s self-centered so I can’t wait to fully grasp the opportunities that are left for her. She is the star of her own world and that’s my favorite quality about her.’

The actress also gushed about her co-star.

‘I just love working with Leighton (Meester). She is a brilliant singer and her acting is fantastic.

‘I completely adore working with her. If I could just keep working with her, that would be fine.’

She also had kind words for The Princess Bride alum Wallace Shawn, who appeared in a recurring role on Gossip Girl.

‘Wally (Shawn) is hysterical and anything he does, I get a great kick out of,’ she said. ‘The dance sequences were hysterical. He kept walking around saying, ‘I can’t dance’ so I taught him. He is such an artist and is such great fun.

‘All of the kids are really good, they have their characters down and bring a lot to every scene. It’s an awful lot of fun interacting with all of them.’

Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, Margaret Colin grew up in a large Irish Catholic family that valued creativity and strong family ties.

She then went on to originate the role of Margo Montgomery on As the World Turns, a character that went on to become one of the most enduring in daytime television.

Colin eventually made the leap from daytime to primetime, landing lead roles in Foley Square, Leg Work, and the sci-fi drama Now and Again.

She also made memorable guest appearances on Chicago Hope and Law & Order: SVU, showing her range across drama and comedy alike.

On the big screen, Colin became a familiar face of the ’80s and ’90s, appearing in hits like Something Wild, Three Men and a Baby, Independence Day, and The Devil’s Own.
