Mariah Carey has reacted to suspicion that a newly released video message from her was AI-generated.
This week the 55-year-old music icon released a 2024 Spotify Wrapped video in which she thanked fans for streaming her songs and promised to share new music soon.
The brief clip shows Mariah, who shares 13-year-old twins with ex-husband Nick Cannon, wearing the red, fur-trimmed onesie she wore on the cover of her 1994 Christmas album.
Dimly lit, she sported a bold red lip while delivering her message in front of twinkling Christmas trees.
But fans online quickly pointed out that the self-appointed ‘Queen of Christmas’ seemed a little too perfect, likening her subtle movement and carefully pronounced words to artificial intelligence.
‘I can’t tell if this is ai or she got a gun pointed at her…’ one fan wrote on X in response to a fan account that shared the snippet.

One fan added to the thread, ‘It looks like AI omg,’ with a sobbing emoji
Another added to the thread, ‘It looks like AI omg,’ while someone else simply wrote, ‘This looks like AI HAHA.’
One fan defended the singing sensation, writing on the social media platform, ‘It’s not AI, she’s just reading something behind the camera which gives uncanny vibes (you can see it in the eye movements).’
Someone else weighed in, ‘no f*****g way you people actually think thats not ai.’
Mariah joined in to give her response as she said, ‘Bad lighting and a red lip have you all thinking this is AI?? There’s a reason I’m not a fan of either of those things!’
Referencing the Massachusetts stop of her Christmas Time tour, the hitmaker added, ‘About to celebrate #Christmastime with my Boston.’
There were also people who backed up Carey’s insistence that she did indeed record the video herself.
‘It must be hard being so gorgeous that nobody believes you’re real,’ one wrote.
‘It’s really her, she’s just reading the teleprompter,’ another supporter added to the conversation.

The Fantasy hitmaker is currently hitting stages across the country as she performs her Christmas Time tour.
The tour was announced in August and it celebrates the 30th anniversary of her timeless holiday hit, All I Want For Christmas Is You.
The first show was on November 6 in Highland, California, and the final concert is slated for December 17 in Brooklyn.
Mariah’s setlist is rounded out with 26 songs and the concert is around 90 minutes-long.
Audiences will enjoy renditions of the superstar’s biggest, most recognizable songs as well as holiday classics.
It’s become customary for Carey to promote her mid-90s Christmas album during the last two months of the year.
The lead single is ubiquitous around the holiday season as fans push it back to the top of the music charts year after year.

On Thursday evening Mariah interacted with her nearly 14 million Instagram followers to promote the latest edition of her Christmas album.
Posting the original album cover, which showed her propped in a snowy scene, she wrote a thoughtful caption.
‘The deluxe digital edition of my Merry Christmas album is out now! You know I don’t know numbers but I’m really proud to celebrate 30 years of this album. I’m so grateful to all my fans who spent many of their Christmases with these songs,’ the songstress said.
She added, ‘The album is available now with a new remastering of my 1994 concert at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
‘Hope you enjoy listening, and hoping we spend many more holidays together! Merry Christmas, xoxo M.’
