Kodaline Splits After a Decade, Promises One Last Album for Fans

Beloved Irish rock band Kodaline announced on Thursday that they have split after a decade-long journey together. 

The group, comprised of Steve Garrigan, 37, Vincent May, 35, Mark Prendergast, 36, and Jason Boland, assured fans they’ll be hitting the studio ‘one last time’ to create their fifth and final album. 

Sharing the news in an emotional video posted to Instagram, the band captioned the post: ‘After over a decade, it’s time to say goodbye. With all our love VSMJ.’ 

In the footage, which features the band performing on stage, the members speak in a voiceover, saying: ‘After over a decade together we’ve made the difficult decision to say goodbye to Kodaline. 

‘It might come as a surprise, and it’s definitely bittersweet for us too. What we’ve shared has changed our lives forever. 

‘From busking on the streets of Dublin to playing shows across the world, it really has been the stuff that dreams are made of.

‘We want it to end on a high, so before we say goodbye, we’re heading into the studio one last time to record our fifth and final album as Kodaline. 

‘We are, and always will be, forever grateful for your love and support. 

‘It’s been a journey that we’ll never forget and we hope that the music stays with you long after we’re gone. 

They concluded the video with the message: ‘With all our love Vinny, Steve, Mark and Jay.’ 

Heartbroken fans rushed to the comment section to share their shock and sadness, with one writing: ‘When you said your last goodbye, i died a little bit inside.. never hit harder than today.’; 

‘This is my biggest heartbreak for the year’; ‘Ah lads. You brought me on my first ever tour and completely changed my life. Will always be the best.’ 

Originally known as 21 Demands, the band was formed in Swords, north County Dublin, and rose to fame after appearing on the Irish talent show You’re a Star.

They rebranded as Kodaline in 2012 to reflect their evolving musical direction and released their debut album the following year.

To date, the band have released four studio albums: In a Perfect World (2013), Coming Up for Air (2015), Politics of Living (2018), and One Day at a Time (2020).

They are best known for their heartfelt anthems, including All I Want, High Hopes, Brother, and Love Like This, which earned them a devoted global fanbase.

Kodaline also captured critical attention, earning a nomination for MTV’s Brand New award in 2013 and being shortlisted for the BBC’s Sound of 2013.

Their last live performance in Ireland was a headline set at Electric Picnic 2024, drawing thousands of fans for what would unknowingly be a farewell moment.
