WA Politician Uses Isla Fisher’s Image in Campaign Posters

A politician in Western Australia has been using an image of actress Isla Fisher to lure votes for a council election on October 18.

Fisher, 49, who grew up in Perth, WA, is part of a unique campaign for Simon Barry, a candidate who is running for the Applecross-Mount Pleasant ward in the City of Melville.

In one poster, used as an election advert and shared to social media, Fisher can be seen posing in a saucy outfit on what appears to be a magazine cover.

However, the image is a mock-up of an old-school-style women’s mag and features Barry’s name where a standard masthead would be.

Looking stunning in a figure-hugging pink one-shoulder dress, Isla appears at her glamorous red carpet best for Barry’s ad, completing her look with eye-catching makeup and dazzling drop earrings.

The campaign poster also features ‘teaser’ headline profiling Barry as a ‘hands-on dad of three, Simon knows what families need to feel safe, supported and connected’.

Barry told Perth Now that he has been sharing election ads to Reddit, YouTube, and Facebook in the hope of drawing interest for council elections, especially among younger voters.

In a break from tradition, Barry has not been using his own image exclusively for his campaign.

Instead, he features images that resemble travel ads and retail promotions.

One poster looks like an ad for a doughnut product, while another resembles an advertisement for a coffeehouse.

It comes after Fisher recently broke her silence on her high-profile divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen.

The Aussie actress, who announced her split with the Borat actor in April last year, revealed how she had been picking up the pieces in the wake of the split, admitting that the Carl Jung method had helped her heal in a healthy way.

The Jungian method is a therapeutic approach that explores unconscious forces, dreams, symbols, and archetypes, with an aim towards self-understanding, self-integration, and fulfilment.

‘This is totally personal and I say this with the caveat that it worked for me, but the concept of processing stuff and taking your time, thinking about it again and again, you don’t really feel better that way,’ she told The Australian.

Instead, the Wedding Crashers star kept moving following the divorce, saying ‘yes’ to any opportunity that came her way and throwing herself into her work.

The move has seen the Wedding Daze actress keeping busy on film sets, staying active in her community and reinventing herself creatively after what she calls a parental ‘power pause’.

‘It’s amazing to me that at this point in my life I’ve got this opportunity, in a positive way, to reinvent what the last act of my life is now from the ground up,’ she said, gushing that she loved returning to work.

The actress went on to explain she didn’t fall out of love with acting during her hiatus from the screen, she was just more in love with motherhood, and still is.

But now, thanks to the extra time that co-parenting brings, she can do both.

‘For most parents, we focus on our kids and it’s so divine and magical and so absorbing, but now I have some time where the kids aren’t with me, so I get some time to think about what the future might hold for me.’

The actress has made sporadic film appearances in recent years, voicing parts in Back to the Outback in 2021 and Strays in 2023.

She also had a role in the 2024 film The Present, her first on-camera film appearance in four years.

After her split from Sacha became public, however, Isla appeared in the big-budget film Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.

She has four films all due to be released either this year or next, marking her busiest working period since 2016 when she appeared in Keeping Up with the Joneses, Nocturnal Animals and Grimsby with then-husband Sacha.
