Australian Influencer Unveils Outrageous Labubu Christmas Tree Early

Popular Tiktokker Matt Hey recently created a viral storm when he announced he was setting up a Christmas tree three months ahead of the festive season, back in September.

And now, the 29-year-old Aussie funnyman has revealed that he has broken with holiday custom by using Labulu toys as decorations.

Posting an outrageous video to his TikTok account last week, Matt predicted his decision to use the ‘creepy’ dolls on his tree could be controversial.

‘This is going to make so many people so angry – and I love it,’ Matt told fans during the clip while hanging the popular dolls onto the branches of a traditional Christmas fir.

‘I wanted to represent this year in some way, so how could I do any other theme but Labubus?’ he explained.

The dolls, which originated with Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung, have soared in popularity Down Under since the start of 2025.

In a quirky twist, buyers who typically spend over $30 retail for the miniature keychain versions of the dolls don’t know which figure they are getting.

During the clip, Matt was keen to flaunt his ‘exclusive’ Labubu imports from Singapore, as well as some other dolls he claimed were ‘rare’.

Matt also mocked traditional holiday tunes by changing the lyrics to ‘Jingle Bells’ to ‘Labubu bells, Labubu bells, Labubu bells all the way’.

‘Just a reminder, everyone, I’m a fully grown man,’ he said at one point, adding, ‘This has been so fun for me, not you.’

By Tuesday, the clip had attracted 44.2K love heart ‘likes’ and over 300 comments, many of them enthusiastically supporting Matt’s quirky break with tradition.

‘Hate Labulus, love this,’ one TikTokker commented on the post, while another messaged, ‘This was, in fact, fun for me too.’

A third fan simply said, ‘Love, love, love, this.’

It comes after Matt announced last month that he was ready to celebrate Christmas in September after feeling fed up with 2025.

‘I’m not even kidding, I know it’s September but I am putting the Christmas tree up… and none of you can stop me,’ he said in his amusing video.

‘Honestly, I’m sick of this year, I’m done with it. Let’s just put the Christmas tree up and call it a year.

‘I would like to actually enjoy Christmas for as long as possible.’

Before anyone could comment on the next holiday event, Matt quickly shut it down.

‘To all of you, I don’t wanna hear, ‘What about Halloween?’ I f***ing Halloween. Stuff Halloween,’ he ranted.

‘There I said it. Always have always will – hate Halloween. Boring, next.’

He added: ‘So I’m putting the Christmas tree up this weekend. If you’d like to join me, you can and if you don’t want to join me, bah humbug.’

His video has been viewed more than 70,000 times – with many standing by Matt’s decision to set up a Christmas tree three months early.

‘You know what? I approve, Merry Christmas to you and your family,’ one said.

‘I’m not mad about this,’ another shared.

‘I agree, it’s a shame to only have a Christmas tree up for three weeks when it really does brighten your spirits and home,’ one suggested.

‘I wish every day was Christmas Day. I love the decorations and food. So I wholeheartedly approve of this,’ another added.

However, not everyone agreed, with one saying: ‘Matt, it is September’ to which Matt quickly responded: ‘Not loving your energy here.’
