Some Taylor Swift fans are speculating she might have had some misguided AI visions in promoting her new album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Amid a searing personal and professional hot streak – including a recent engagement, top-selling album, and number one film – the superstar singer, 35, has landed in hot water for use of AI in Easter Egg advertisements for her eagle-eyed fans, known as the Swifties.
As a part of the rollout for the release of her 12th studio album and accompanying film, Swift catered to her fan base with an online scavenger hunt that incorporated clues via Google.
In all, a dozen unique videos were held behind QR codes that led to ‘orange doors’ that featured clips spelling out the phrase, ‘You must remember everything, but mostly this, the crowd is your king.’
But some of the Swifties noticed what they described as sloppy use of AI in assorted clips promoting the new projects, triggering a wave of criticism on social media.

One fan said Swift was setting a poor example for the rest of the industry considering she is at the top of the entertainment world – and serves as example for others.
‘Taylor has literally used AI in EVERY of these [The Life of a Showgirl] little visuals,’ one user said. ‘This is literally so bad considering she’s the biggest artist out there right now.’
One social media user pointed out Swift’s own well-chronicled professional battle with music exec Scooter Braun after he purchased her masters from her former label owner Scott Borchetta.
The user asked, ‘Why a billionaire spending YEARS defending their art would need this?’
The user called the decision to incorporate AI into Swift’s promotional materials ‘terribly disappointing.’
Another said that Swift’s use of artificial intelligence was merely a sign of the times, noting that ‘the future is here faster than you think…’
One user got into detail about the errors made incorporating artificial intelligence into the promotion of the album.
Another Swifty took a magnifying glass to an obviously erroneous image, pointing out inconsistencies with the AI itself.

‘I don’t have issue with the AI usage but the sloppiness,’ the user said. ‘Looks like she or her team doesn’t have an eye for details?
‘Should’ve corrected all these issues with normal vfx. now people will wonder where else she used AI.’
The user noted that ‘incidents like these are actually bad’ for the AI industry.
Another added after examining one problematic image, ‘At first I didn’t quite believe, but the discrepancy between the first shot and the last shot makes it pretty clear.
‘And as shown in the last shot, how would anybody get behind this bar lol.’
