Big Brother was back on viewer’s screens on Sunday night after a five year hiatus and the housemates are a diverse bunch.

One of this year’s contestant Dylan Tennant has opened up about the traumatic accident that saw him lose his leg in a 2015 motorcycle accident in Tenerife.

The DJ, 39, tried desperately to save his right foot for two years after it was left severely injured after he was hit head on by a taxi on the Canary Island.

The accident happened in 2015, however tragically in 2017 doctors concluded they were unable to save his foot and his leg was amputated.

Since then, the new reality TV star has documented his journey online as he learnt to walk again.

Taking to YouTube, Dylan explained that although medics had saved his foot originally he always had problems walking on it.

‘Over the two years I’ve had problems with it. It gets infected, it swells up when it’s hot, it hurts inside when it’s cold.

‘Every month for the past year and a half I’ve had some sort of problem with it,’ he explained.

‘I had a really, really serious infection three weeks ago, I woke up one day and I just could not walk on it, it was just absolute pain in my foot.’

When the antibiotics failed to treat the infection Dylan was told he would need to undergo below-the-knee amputation.

Slightly ironically Dylan appeared on TV show The Last Leg two years before losing his leg.

Talking about joining the latest series of Big Brother he said: ‘I always like meeting new people and having new hurdles to jump as an amputee.

‘It’s going to be an interesting journey to see if I can do whatever we’re asked without having any problems with staying on my leg for a certain amount of time and doing all the tasks.’

The influential social experiment, in which housemates live together in a custom-built home for weeks without access to the outside world, in a bid to win a cash prize, re-opened its doors on ITV on Sunday night.

New hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best kicked off the launch show on ITV, after the reality show was axed in 2018 by Channel 5, introducing a new batch of 16 contestants in front of a studio audience.

But as a barman, butcher and a Muslim make-up artist entered the house, fans accused the show of ‘going woke’.

The latest contestants featuring disabled Dylan, Multiple Sclerosis sufferer Kerry, 40, and practising Muslim Farida, 50.

With Kerry making history as she become the first ever housemate to enter via motorised scooter.

But taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, viewers were left divided with some claiming the series was ‘ticking boxes’ with it’s choice of participants.
