Sophia Loren is back on the mend, nearly two weeks after undergoing an emergency surgery to repair ‘serious fractures’ after suffering a fall in her home.
The 89-year-old actress suffered a fall in a bathroom of her home in Geneva, Switzerland on September 24.
Loren suffered, ‘serious fractures’ to different parts of her hip, including her femur, which needed ‘urgent surgery’, according to her agent Andrea Giusti.
Giusti offered a new update to People on Thursday, revealing, ‘Everything [is] going well. At least a few months of rehabilitation are needed.’
The legendary actress’ rep added that her two sons, Carlo Ponti Jr., 54, and Edoardo Ponti, 50, are both by her side as she recovers.

The news of her fall was shared on her restaurant’s Instagram page revealed she had suffered fractures from a fall.
‘A fall at her home in Geneva today caused Ms Loren hip fractures. Operated with a positive outcome, she will now have to observe a short period of recovery and follow a road to rehabilitation,’ the statement began.
‘Thankfully everything worked out for the best and the Lady will be back with us very soon,’ the statement added.

The actress celebrated her 89th birthday on September 20 and earlier that month, she put in an appearance at the 80th Venice International Film Festival.
Italian journalist/critic Giuseppe Fantasia said that Loren was, ‘very lively’ during her appearance at the festival.
‘You can tell she loves these events, she’s really happy at them. She carried herself extremely well. People were quite excited to see her. She was quite the pull,’ Fantasia added.
Another person who encountered Loren at the festivan said she, ‘looked absolutely fine,’ adding she, ‘probably had the biggest crowd around her at the show.’

‘She was absolutely surrounded, chatting to people, in very good form,’ the insider added of Loren.
Sophia had been due to open a fourth branch of her restaurant chain in Bari, Italy shortly after the accident.
The Italian native was also due to receive honorary citizenship from the city, though that event and her other upcoming public engagements were canceled.
Sophia most recently appeared in the 2020 Netflix film The Life Ahead, directed by her son Edoardo, which won her a David di Donatello Award for best actress. Sophia plays a Holocaust survivor who bonds with a 12-year-old Nigerian immigrant.
