Olivia Munn updated her fans and followers on her ongoing breast cancer battle in a series of Instagram posts Wednesday and Thursday.
The 44-year-old actress, who was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in April of 2023, took to the social media platform Wednesday with a series of clips for 3 million followers, encouraging an discussion on the serious topic.
The Oklahoma City native captioned the image, ‘My breast cancer timeline. I’ve gotten a lot of questions about this and I’ve wanted to make this video for those asking for a while but I’ve been filming, finishing filming, running after a toddler and starting a new medication.
‘Thank you for your patience and understanding … if you have any questions about my treatment or surgeries I’ve listed please put them in the comments.
Munn, who played the role of Sloan Sabbith on HBO’s The Newsroom from 2012–2014, said that she hoped to inform, help and inspire others ‘who have gone through it or are going through it right now.

The timeframe leading to the official diagnosis Munn received read: ‘Jan 2022 2 mammograms, 2 ultrasounds: clear; Jan 2023 mammogram: clear; Feb 2023 genetic testing: 0% chance of genetic cancer; March 2023 Tyrer-Cuzik breast cancer assessment score: 37.3%.’
Munn’s timeline clarified that she underwent an MRI, ultrasound and biopsies in March and April of 2023 prior to receiving a bilateral breast cancer diagnosis in April of 2023.
Munn’s timeline continued in May of 2023 with a ‘nipple delay, lymph node dissection and double mastectomy’ followed by a June 2023 egg retrieval treatment.
The timeline indicated that she underwent a breast reconstruction procedure in September of 2023, and that in November she commenced with a Lupron regimen.
In April of 2024, Munn underwent a partial hysterectomy/oophorectomy, according to the timeline, and in August she began an Arimidex regimen.
Munn, who is mother to two-year-old son Malcolm with her spouse John Mulaney, 42, told her followers that she would continue to ‘make videos answering as many’ questions as she could on the topic.

She added that she was thankful for the support she has received from the public amid her health battle.
‘I just wanted to say to everyone who has sent me a message or stopped me on the street when I’m out shopping, it really means so much to me and it’s been incredibly healing, so thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you,’ she said.
In an additional comment she posted Wednesday, Munn acknowledged that she was aware of the feedback she has received and planned on catching up when she had an opportunity.
‘I’m seeing every single one of your comments. I will make notes of all of them and answer them in follow up videos,’ Munn said. ‘So if you don’t see me commenting back just know I’m on it.’
In a subsequent post on her Instagram Stories Thursday, Munn said that a number of replies inquired about the Tyrer-Cuzick test, which she said is a ‘free online test’ that tabulates the likelihood a person will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
She explained the factors involved in the test, linking to multiple online resources for further information on it.

‘Surprisingly, I’ve only cried twice,’ said Munn. I guess I haven’t felt like there was time to cry.
‘My focus narrowed and I tabled any emotions that I felt would interfere with my ability to stay clearheaded … I went from feeling completely fine one day, to waking up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery the next.’
