Brendan Fevola opened up on Wednesday about his dramatic weight loss journey over the past year, which has seen him shed over 30kgs and reach his target goal.
The AFL great, 43, discussed his transformation on Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick breakfast show, and told his co-hosts what his secret to shedding the kilos was.
‘I’m on another diet. I’m two weeks in and feeling amazing. I’ve dropped like nine kilos as I’m doing keto, which is perfect for me,’ he began.
‘It’s no carbs, no sugar. I’m not really a sugar person, so I don’t really eat chocolates that much.’
The keto diet is a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet that aims to get the body into a state of ketosis where it burns fat for fuel, which helps induce weight loss.
Brendan added he was enjoying trying out new foods as part of his diet and said he was already noticing some incredible – and unexpected – benefits.
‘I’ll be having cauliflower rice, cauliflower mash with like the meat. I’m having salmon, fish, chicken. The food’s actually beautiful, it’s everything I eat but taking out the carbs.
‘I literally walk down the street now and people are like, “Is that him Fev!”, because I’m fading away. Last year I got up to 128kg, which is very heavy. By the time I finish this, I’ll be under my playing weight at Carlton. I’ll be around the same weight.’

It comes after Brendan previously revealed he thought he was going to die as he battled to lose 12kg in nine days as part of his contract with weight loss gurus Jenny Craig.
He became a Jenny Craig ambassador in 2017 and, following the news that the weight loss firm has gone bust, he revealed what he was required to do to satisfy his contractual obligations.
‘I got paid a lot of money, but for the first six months I had to lose a lot of weight,’ he said on the radio.
‘And then for the next year you had to stay within two kilos, you got weighed every month and that was without the food, you had to do it yourself.’

Fevola went on to explain the ‘scary’ lengths he went to to uphold his end of the bargain, which culminated in him needing to lose nearly 12 kilos in nine days.
‘It got a bit scary because it was coming up to the big weigh in where I would be paid the big cash, so I had to hit it,’ he said.
‘My goal was 108kg and I was nine days out and I was 119.8 and I had nine days to lose it and I didn’t eat for virtually seven days.’
‘I went to a sauna and I walked out at the Brighton baths to go for a little walk but I had no energy. It was so bad, it was the only time I thought I’d die. My nose started bleeding for no reason and I had some soup which filled me back up.’
‘But there’s a great outcome, I woke up the morning of, I went in and weighed in, I got to 107, they all clapped and said well done.’
