Can You Spot the Issue with This Channel Ten Studio?

Channel Ten has stepped into the future of news with a brand new green screen virtual studio.

News anchor Jennifer Keyte was pictured in the Como, NSW studio two weeks ago as the network launched the innovation.

Ten VP of News Martin White said in a statement this week that the new studio was part of why the channel is ‘at the forefront’.

‘I’m thrilled we’re able to give them an unparalleled, immersive local news, sport and weather experience with this new technology,’ he explained, as reported by TV Tonight.

‘Our team is at the forefront of news in this country, and this is just a first step.’

A press release explains that the pioneering facility, known as Studio 1A, ‘positions Network 10 at the forefront of commercial broadcasting innovation, with the studio delivering unmatched flexibility, advanced automation, and superior visual storytelling capabilities for news and beyond.’

The studio is driven by the rapid evolution of Virtual Reality (VR) techniques in television and film and ‘incorporates fully automated, remote-controlled cameras and an immersive graphics platform powered by Unreal Engine – a technology widely recognised for its transformative impact on the global broadcast and film industries.’

The release further explains: ‘The integration of these advanced systems allows for seamless camera movements and real-time scene changes, reflecting the latest industry trends in virtual production and automation.’

Additionally, ‘presenters are no longer confined to fixed positions, ensuring dynamic new ways to engage audiences and deliver content, delivering a more compelling and visually impactful viewing experience.’

It comes amid a slew of changes at the network.

In June, Adelaide staff at Channel Ten were reportedly told to relocate interstate or face redundancy, just one week after The Project was axed.

Employees at the network’s office in South Australia were informed that two production workers would be let go unless they accepted offers to relocate to either Sydney or Melbourne, reports The Advertiser.

The move forms part of broader cost-cutting measures across the company, with similar relocation ultimatums issued in Brisbane and Perth.

Veteran video editors are believed to make up the bulk of the affected roles.

According to an email sent by president of news Martin White, which was seen by the publication, the move is to ensure a more efficient workflow for the network’s ‘successful news offering’.

‘As we continue to bolster our successful news offering, we are changing our media management and editing workflow around the states to ensure greater efficiency and alignment,’ White wrote.

‘No local news gathering, journalism or presentation is impacted by this move in any way.’

The shake-up followed the announcement last week that The Project would be pulled from the schedule after 16 years and more than 4,500 episodes.

Its final episode aired June 27, and was replaced by a single national 6pm news bulletin.

Channel Ten has moved forward with its major rebrand as the network and launched a new current affairs show.

The premium news program, titled 10 NEWS+, hit screens June 30.
