Chrissy Teigen’s ‘Torturous’ Ozempic Experience Post-Miscarriage

Chrissy Teigen is getting real about her complicated relationship with food and the controversial use of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic.

On Thursday’s episode of her Self-Conscious podcast, the model, 39, opened up about her personal experience with the medication, which she quietly began taking after the loss of her son Jack, who died at 20 weeks of gestation in September 2020.

‘I first started taking Ozempic after the loss of our Jack – there I was, existing in a body that didn’t feel like mine, with absolutely nothing to celebrate – just the constant reminder that this body that once carried life for 20 weeks, was now just a… sad reminder,’ Teigen wrote on her Instagram.

She admitted that while the medication dulled her appetite, the psychological impact of losing her hunger was far from easy.

In a clip from her conversation with author Johann Hari, Teigen explained, ‘For me it’s almost torturous not being hungry at all. I love being hungry. I love craving food. I love desiring food.’

The Cravings cookbook author described food as both a comfort and a challenge in her life, confessing that the effects of Ozempic left her conflicted.

‘Food has always been my joy, my comfort, and my struggle,’ she shared. ‘Talking with @johann.hari about Ozempic and these ‘magic pill’ weight-loss drugs got real — the shame, the relief, the weirdness of losing hunger. It’s complicated, it’s emotional, and yeah… a little funny too.’

While she didn’t shy away from acknowledging the stigma surrounding Ozempic, calling it a ‘dirty little buzzword’ and a ‘polarizing, clickbaity topic’, Teigen made it clear that for her, the conversation isn’t about judgment, but about honesty.

During their conversation, the mother-of-four, who is married to John Legend, revealed she has never loved working out and has always been obsessed with food.

The star even admitted that she keeps candy drawer by her bed and her spouse makes her a ‘sleep sandwich’ every night that she eats at 2 a.m.

Teigen, who says most of her friends are on weight loss drugs, credited Ozempic  ‘released [her] from the prison of thinking about food in bad ways.’

‘Five years ago, I wouldn’t have a piece of rice with sushi. I grew up on Atkins diet,’ she confessed. ‘Carrots had sugar so I was like, “Oh god, no. So I can’t have carrots.” The rules I made up for myself that I thought was right were insane.’

After losing baby Jack, Teigen said her ‘body was just completely stuck.’

‘I gained so much pregnant. I gained 70 lb. I really let myself indulge when I was pregnant. So, when I had lost that baby at 20 weeks, I had probably gained an extra 40 lbs that I wasn’t comfortable with,’ she explained. ‘I remember way before people were even talking Ozempic…I had tried it for maybe like a year or so.’
