Kristin Davis: ‘I thought we’d continue’ after ‘And Just Like That’ was axed after three seasons.

Devastated Kristin Davies has revealed she and the rest of the cast of And Just Like That had ‘no idea’ the show was going to be axed after three series.

The drama, which is a sequel to the original Sex And The City series, launched on Sky and HBO Max in 2021, with Kristin, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon reprising their fan-favourite roles.

Kim Cattrall, 69, who played Samantha Jones, did not return after her public feud with Sarah, 60, though did make a guest cameo in series two.

However, last month fans were left stunned when it was announced the reboot would be coming to an abrupt end.

Speaking out following the final episode, Kristin, 60, has revealed the cast also didn’t see the news coming like their viewers.

Kristin told Drew Barrymore on her show how it was ‘definitely true’ the cast and crew ‘didn’t know’ the show’s fate ahead of wrapping series three.

The actress said: ‘Our commitment that we had made was a three-year commitment to each other, so we knew that part, but I just assumed that we were going to keep going.

‘That’s how I am.’

And Just Like That had got a mixed response from viewers after its debut but Kristin was ‘profoundly sad’ after showrunner Michael Patrick King revealed in August that the programme would be ending.

The star – who had played the role of Charlotte York since Sex And The City first aired in 1998 – wrote on Instagram: ‘I am profoundly sad.

‘I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever.’

The series ended after a two-part finale to the third season and King felt it was the right time to bring the show to a conclusion.

He said in a message posted on HBO Max’s social media pages: ‘And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end.

‘While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season three, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.

‘Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.

‘SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.’

Sarah Jessica Parker, who portrayed Carrie Bradshaw in the series, wrote of her sadness at bidding farewell to a role that has ‘dominated (her) professional heartbeat’ for nearly three decades.

The star penned: ‘Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all.

‘I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion.

‘Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt.’

Daily Mail previously revealed And Just Like That’s glaring issues had ultimately become impossible for production to ignore – despite their best efforts to see the show through to its rightful end.

An insider said: ‘HBO was happy to ride with the show for a few more years.’

They added: ‘Everyone was indebted to Sarah [Jessica Parker] and wanted the story she wanted to be told to go to completion.

‘Decision makers felt like they owed it to Sarah and the rest of the cast and crew.’
