Australian journalist Kevin Sanders, best known as ‘the first voice on CNN’, has died at the age of 87.
Sanders is believed to have passed away on April 22, 2023.
He is survived by wife June Atkin Sanders, stepson Matthew Corwin, stepdaughter Susannah and five step grandchildren.
Sanders began his career at Perth radio station 6PR before moving into television at ATN7 in Sydney.
He also presented his late night 15-minute news program, Kevin Sanders Reports, on Melbourne’s GTV9.

He went on to become Australian television’s first Canberra correspondent and was presenting evening news bulletins for both channels.
Sanders moved to the US in the early 1970s and was anchor at KTLA Los Angeles before later becoming a science reporter at CNN.
He returned back to Australia in 1977 and co-hosted Nine’s A Current Affair with Sue Smith for six months.
Sanders began his career at Perth radio station 6PR before moving into television at ATN7 in Sydney and Melbourne ‘s GTV9
Sanders also became the only journalist to cover the entire proceedings of the World Court hearings on the legality of nuclear weapons.
He was passionate about raising awareness of the risks posed by nuclear weapons.
He later produced documentaries on nuclear weapons including People Against the Bomb – Showdown at the UN and Judgement in The Hague.
