Courteney Cox is celebrating her daughter’s 20th birthday with a touching message.
‘Happy birthday to my beautiful, sweet, kind, sensitive and creative Coco,’ the 59-year-old wrote beneath her Instagram post on Thursday. ‘You never cease to make me laugh. I love you sooooo much co to the lo.’
Along with her sweet words, Courteney shared several photos of her only child, including one of the mother-daughter duo smiling together on the beach.
Other shots showed a younger Coco posing with cucumbers over her eyes, on the beach in a light-pink swimsuit, and making a funny face at the camera while sporting fake eyebrows.
Courteney’s ex-husband, David Arquette, also wished his daughter a very happy birthday on Instagram.

‘Happy Birthday Coco!!! I love you and can’t believe you’re 20 today!’ he wrote. ‘I hope you have the best birthday and celebrate your brilliance!!!’
His caption was accompanied by a video montage, which included a look at Coco with her stepmom, Christina McLarty Arquette, and younger brothers, Charlie and Gus.
These days, Coco may be all grown up, but Courteney is still reflecting on raising her mini-me throughout the years.
In April, the Friends star went on Minnie Driver’s Minnie Questions podcast and shared her regret of not stepping into certain situations when Coco was younger.
‘I wish so bad I could have realized in the moment a way to protect Coco from things that I didn’t, because of my own issues, whether it was codependency or seeing her in relationships with people I knew this was not good,’ Courteney explained. ‘But I didn’t want to step in, even though I knew something wasn’t right, because she would get so mad at me.’
Recalling some of the conversations the pair would have, the Dirt alum noted, ‘She [would say], “Let me deal with it mom, you don’t understand.” And I did understand, and I should have [trusted] myself and I should have stepped in. So, with certain things about myself, she saw them.’
‘I’m not saying I made her who she is, but you do see things in other people, whether it’s just always taking care of people and being the nicest person,’ Courteney continued.
‘And I mean, that’s one of the things with age, I’ve learned to say no, I’ve learned to have boundaries. But I mean, earlier on when she was a kid, or not even that many years ago, I wish I’d been a firmer parent.’
”Thank God, Coco isn’t into really high-end clothes or designer anything,’ the Friends star shared about her daughter. ‘She doesn’t care about labels. And thank God that she shops for her clothes on Amazon, because she could be this other kid [like] “I want fab Gucci.” And you’d have to spend your whole life saying no’
However, some things came smoothly to Courteney, like her daughter’s easygoing nature when it comes to where she shops.
”Thank God, Coco isn’t into really high-end clothes or designer anything,’ she told Minnie.
‘She doesn’t care about labels.
‘And thank God that she shops for her clothes on Amazon, because she could be this other kid [like] “I want fab Gucci.” And you’d have to spend your whole life saying no.’
The Scream actress has been vocal about boundaries in the past, noting: ‘We fight. I’ve learned that boundaries are important and to keep them because I know it makes her feel safe. But I’m not always good with boundaries. I get worn out’
Sharing an example of their conversation, Courteney added, ‘She’ll say, “Mom, I have bought five pairs of Mary Janes on Amazon and they just keep breaking. Would it be ok if I got just one really nice pair?” And I’m like, “Oh s—, yeah.” And she’ll say, “Like from Steve Madden.” And I’m like “Sure Coco, go ahead.”‘
‘I’m so lucky!’ she exclaimed with a laugh.
Courteney has been vocal about boundaries in the past, telling People in 2022 about her then 17-year-old, ‘We fight. I’ve learned that boundaries are important and to keep them because I know it makes her feel safe. But I’m not always good with boundaries. I get worn out.’
The Cougar Town actress shared about her 20-year-old’s self expression: ‘She loves to dress up. She will dye her hair, it was purple a week ago, I think right now it’s blonde underneath before it was blue’
The Scream actress added, ‘You’ve got to pick your battles and decide what is important.’
But the fights don’t negate their tight bond.
‘I was really close to my mom,’ Courteney shared. ‘She was my best friend. And I have that with Coco. She tells me everything.’
The Hollywood icon has also seen Coco grow into her own and couldn’t be happier.
‘People will say, “Why do you let Coco wear so much makeup?” She’s been wearing makeup forever, that is a self-expression for her,’ Courteney explained during a 2021 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. ‘She loves to dress up. She will dye her hair, it was purple a week ago, I think right now it’s blonde underneath before it was blue.’
The Cougar Town star admitted that Coco’s coloring preferences change so often that ‘we’ve ruined the bathroom 1,000 times.’
Regardless of the mess, Courteney advocates for her child’s self-expression to a certain extent.
‘I think we just have to let them be themselves with boundaries, of course,’ she said. ‘I am not great at boundaries. I have to get better at it.’
