Katherine Jenkins looked beautiful in yellow as she sung the national anthem at the Women’s Challenge Cup Final between St Helens and Leeds Rhinos in Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

The Welsh opera star, 43, stunned in an off-shoulder floor-length dress as she took to the field.

Katherine, who is the biggest-selling classical artist of the century, performed at the Royal Albert Hall to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day just the day before.

Favourites St Helens went on to obliterate the Leeds Rhinos by an eyewatering 22-0, the first time a women’s team has been ‘nilled’ since 2012, when the cup began.

St Helens has now won the Cup, sponsored by Betfred, four times in a row, matching the record set by the Thatto Heath Crusaders, who are also based in St Helens.

In May, it was announced that Katherine will join forces with screen legend Sir Anthony Hopkins to make Handel biopic The King Of Covent Garden.

Katherine is an executive producer on the film with fellow Welsh native Anthony portraying George Frideric Handel.

Handel was a German-British composer born in Germany in 1685 and who died in Westminster in 1759.

He wrote operas, organ concertos, oratorios, including Messiah in 1741, and four coronation anthems, one of which, Zadok the Priest, has been performed at every British coronation since 1727.

The King Of Covent Garden, set to be directed by Andrew Levitas, will focus on the creation of Handel’s Messiah.

Katherine will also be involved as a musical advisor on the project as well as helping with future marketing efforts.

The film is being handled by Embankment Films, also responsible for the international sales on Anthony’s The Father.

The Father earned Anthony his second and last Best Actor Oscar in 2021, following his first for The Silence Of The Lambs in 1992.

Embankment has described The King Of Covent Garden as a ‘powerfully majestic celebration of genius breaking all the rules to create an anthem inspiring the popular imagination of global audiences’.

Tim Slover wrote the film’s screenplay and Dan Lupovitz and Kevan Van Thompson will also produce with Peter Touche (Military Wives, The Son) is executive producing.

In a statement, director Andrew said the film’s story will hinge upon ‘an unlikely pair, who meet each other at their lowest points, and together create a magnificent never-heard-before “sound for the people”: the groundbreaking masterpiece Messiah, the annual global bestseller for close to 300 years’.

He said Tim’s script ‘is populated by passionate, real-life experience in all its color and dirt, creating a riveting human story with surprising contemporary relevancy, universal human connectivity and spiritual uplift’.

The King Of Covent Garden will be released sometime in 2025.
