Rarely Seen Video of The Wiggles performing on Hey Hey It’s Saturday Sparks Excitement Among Fans

Unearthed footage of iconic Australian children’s group The Wiggles performing on Hey Hey it’s Saturday in 1998 has sent fans into a frenzy.

A clip of original Wiggles members Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt and Greg Page performing on the Channel Nine variety show was shared to social media.

The energetic performers are all smiles as they enter the set in their famous Big Red Car and then chat to host Daryl Somers about what they love about performing. 

When asked why they appeal to so many families, Blue Wiggle Anthony quipped: ‘We are really good for children with English as a second language. “Hot Potato, Hot Potato”, that’s about it!’ 

The group then performed their iconic song Can You Do The Twist? to a roaring studio audience, who were seen dancing along to the catchy track.

Many Wiggles fans quickly took to YouTube’s comment section to gush over the resurfaced footage.

‘Who doesn’t love The Wiggles? Our greatest ever exports, without a doubt,’ one person wrote. 

‘I always have and always will LOVE the WIGGLES!’ a second user added, with a third writing, ‘Legends’.

The Wiggles was formed in Sydney in 1991 by the four original members – Only Anthony Field remains in the group today. 

In 2023, original Red Wiggle Murray Cook revealed the most difficult about his time with the iconic children’s group.

The 63-year-old, who departed the band in 2012, said the years he spent on tour took a toll on his personal life as he would be away from his family for long periods of time.

‘We could have done it better. I remember when my young son said, “I don’t like music because that’s what takes Daddy away”,’ he told The Sydney Morning Herald. 

In recent years, The Wiggles have lightened the load of performance schedules by expanding the four-person band to include four more performers -Evie Ferris, Tsehay Hawkins, Kelly Hamilton, and John Pearce. 

The singer added being in The Wiggles was both rewarding and demanding, as they frequently performed over 300 concerts a year.
