Kevin Costner sat down with Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday evening to talk being a dad to so many kids.
At the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival in the south of France this week to chat up Horizon: An American Saga, he took five of his seven children – Annie, 40, Lily, 37, Cayden, 17, Hayes, 15, and Grace, 13 – whom he posed with on the red carpet.
And Kevin admitted he had a hard time keeping track of them, sharing he felt like he needed a ‘tour director’ for them.
‘I wanted them to see me work. I got them tuxedos, I got them dresses,’ the actor told Kimmel.
And his kids made the most of the trip: ‘The minute they got there, my two sons went fishing. … My three daughters ended up on a boat, and said they’d see me around three or four o’clock … and then I get a call and they were drinking drinks at this point, so they cruised in about eight.
‘I said, “We came to France to be as a family.” They go, “It’s working great dad. What do we do next?” I said, “I don’t know. We need a tour director to figure that out.”‘

On Sunday the 69-year-old Yellowstone veteran was seen posing with five of his seven children whom he had with two different wives.
They were all dressed up for the premiere of his new movie, Horizon: An American Saga, as they posed away on the red carpet with papa bear in the middle.
Annie and Lily, are from his first marriage to Cindy Silva. Costner’s son Joe, 36 — also from his first marriage to Silva — was not present.
His youngest kids, Cayden, Hayes and Grace, and the kids of his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner.

Costner and Bridget Rooney’s son, Liam, 26, was also absent from the red carpet event.
A year ago Baumgartner filed for divorce from Costner after almost 20 years of marriage.
She has since moved on with Josh Connor. And Kevin appears to now be dating rock folk singer Jewel but they have yet to go public with their romance.
Ahead of Horizon’s Cannes premiere on Sunday, the two-part saga already been acquired by Metropolitan FilmExport, according to Variety.
It stars Sienna Miller, Luke Wilson, Sam Worthington and Jena Malone.
The movie series follows a family that discovers the lure of the Old West as the Civil War divides the country. Horizon: An American Saga makes its world premiere Sunday at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
On Monday his interview with GQ came out where he talked about his son working on the movie.
‘I felt time slipping…he’s now 15,’ he said of his boy.
‘I thought the window was closing on me being able to be an effective part in that movie. And so I basically burned my ships.
‘Like Cortés, we’re f***ing here. I’m going to make this. And I mortgaged property. Now do you get it?’
He also said he has put $38M of his own money into the films.
‘I guess I could buy apartments and I could buy McDonald’s and I could buy a bunch of things and just grow, grow, grow, grow…’
‘That’s the message I want my kids to understand about who I am: that I do what I believe in. I have fear like everybody else. I don’t want to be humiliated.’

And he touched on his marriage from Christine falling apart.
‘Very serious stuff. And those things are very important. I have to deal with them,’ he told GQ.
‘And I have to deal with them on a daily basis, emotionally, historically almost. And then there’s the immediate needs of children. I’m not going to list the things—I’m going to stop right there with them. That is my job, looking at that, and dealing with that.’
He added: ‘I’ve taken big bites out of life, life’s taken big ones out of me, right? I’m not going to lose myself because I’ve been bruised. I have been, but I’m not going to lose myself. And what I’m going to do is—because we are now after the white whale, okay?
‘So I can’t let go of this rope no matter how much my heart’s on the ground, no matter how broken I may be on a daily basis, I can’t let go of this rope because if I do, this thing called Horizon will stop.

‘And Horizon’s not more important than the other things in my life, but I do have a level of responsibility to those guys that invested with me, to the people that believe in me, to the people that want to work all four of these, and are willing to postpone other jobs on the hint that I might work.
‘And so it doesn’t matter how much water’s hitting me in the face, I can’t let go of the rope that is this thing.
‘Pull. Don’t just f***ing hold on. Pull the f***ing rope too.’
Kevin also talked Yellowstone to GQ.
Yellowstone has not ended yet.
It is only halfway through its fifth season and there are no solid plans to finish the ranch life saga.
On Monday Costner – who plays patriarch John Dutton on TV’s number one show – shared some insights to GQ.
The Oscar-winning star maintained that he told creator Taylor Sheridan he would help end the series, but no scripts have ever come his way.
He co-wrote and directed Horizon, in which he stars with Sienna Miller, Luke Wilson, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone

And Costner also said that he and Taylor have a ‘private’ reason for not going forward, hinting they have disagreements over how the show should end.
But the star, who is promoting his movie Horizon, said that he wants to help end the Dutton saga for the sake of the ‘audience.’
Just hours after Kevin’s interview surface, Paramount Network announced that Yellowstone had already started production on the end of season five and was currently filming in Montana.
As previously announced, the series is slated to return in November 2024.

Yellowstone premiered in 2018 and has since attracted as many as 10 million viewers.
On the show, Costner plays John Dutton III, who fights to save his ranch; he has been compared to a Godfather character because he uses murder to keep his business and family together.
The show needs an ending, but there has been talk that Kevin was too busy or wanted too much money or wanted too much say to get it done.
Now he has told GQ that he has tried.
‘That’s kind of my Western ethic,’ he said.
‘I’ve been quiet about the whole thing and I’ve taken a beating out there. My castmates are confused. The crew was confused.’
He shared that he only did Horizon because he wanted to work more, and he felt he could do Horizon and Yellowstone at the same time.
‘I’ve always wanted to do this movie,’ Costner said, ‘and I was doing Yellowstone. I love Yellowstone.’
Costner said he was so committed to Yellowstone that he renegotiated from his original three-season deal for as many as seven total seasons.
