Mica Paris MBE revealed she was forced to extremes due to pressure surrounding body image and looks at the start of her career.
Speaking to Daily Mail, the iconic songstress, 56, who is colaborating with skincare giant Genaura for the launch of the new Levagen+ Smart Face Serum, spoke about the importance of self-care for women.
Mica, who has been in the industry for 40 years, admitted she was ‘living on her nerves’ due to pressures within the industry.
She said: ‘There was tremendous pressure in the early part of my career to look slim and sexy. So when I knew I had a shoot it was salads, coffee, trainer in that order not the healthiest way if I’m honest. I definitely was living on my nerves…
‘But it was worth it as I’m proud to say looking back at all my album covers they look amazing thank God, so it was worth it.’

She admits she is happy at the changes in the industry, saying: ‘I think it’s changed a lot for women in the public eye it’s great to see a lot of the pressure is off to be perfect. Also a lot more independence but there are still challenges for us’
Mica spoke through how she stays in shape and maintains her healthy lifestyle thanks to a good attitude and love of the outdoors.
On her skincare routine, Mica said: ‘At night before bed I put Genaura on my face and first thing in the morning keeps my skin tight but soft at the same time. Truly a great product I must say I love it’.
Detailing how she stays in shape, she said: ‘First thing in the morning is spirulina shake in the morning with whey protein then I do 8k steps a day in the park with my dog. Then I have a steam five days a week.’
Mica revealed her religion meant she was always taught to look her best.
She said: ‘I was brought up to always look my best coming from a gospel upbringing and I still try to. I feel it’s important to make an effort to look your best also it does wonders for your self esteem…

On her career, she said: ‘There’s loving what you do I mean, every time I write a song, perform on-stage the buzz is so great that it makes you happy to be on planet earth…
‘But the most important thing is seeing the joy what you create brings to people…
‘I feel very fortunate to have this gift truly, I only want my audience to feel uplifted inspired and happy. I see what I do as providing a service and I feel this is the secret to life being there for each other makes life great…
