90s Hollyoaks Stars Reunite on Set for 30th Anniversary Scenes

Hollyoaks legends have been pictured on set as they make their return to screens as the soap celebrates its 30th anniversary.

New snaps show three stars as they filmed scenes for the Channel 4 show on location in Liverpool on Friday.

James Redmond, 53, was pictured as he reprises his role as Finn and could be seen filming a pub scene as part of the anniversary special.

The actor initially starred in the soap from 1998 until his exit in 2002, before returning briefly in 2015 and then another stint between 2017 and 2018.

Meanwhile, John Pickard was also seen on the shoot as Dom alongside his real-life brother Nick Pickard who plays Tony Hutchinson.

He joined Hollyoaks in 2005 and remained in the village until his exit in 2010.

Natalie Casey, who played Carol Groves, was also seen shooting scenes with Ruby O’Donnell and Ellis Hollins.

She first joined Hollyoaks in 1996 and completed a five-year stint before bowing out in 2000, moving onto sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

The cast appeared to be in good spirits for the reunion scenes as they boasted big smiles in between takes.

The exact storyline surrounding their return is being kept under wraps by Hollyoaks bosses and it’s unclear when fans will see their return.

It comes after it was revealed how Hollyoaks will air a special crossover episode with Brookside to celebrate its milestone anniversary.

Last week it was confirmed Philip Olivier and Suzanne Collins would return for the episode, reprising their roles as as Tim ‘Tinhead’ O’Leary and Nikki Shadwick.

Suzanne paid tribute to her late co-star Dean Sullivan, who played Brookside’s longest-serving character Jimmy Corkhill.

He passed away in 2023 aged 68 following a battle with prostate cancer.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Sue Johnson will be back as matriarch Sheila Grant, a part she played from 1982 until 1990.

She said: ‘It’ll be so lovely to go back and be Sheila for a day as it was such a big, enjoyable part of my life.’

Paul Usher will be reprising his role as Sheila’s bad-boy son Barry Grant, and John McArdle is returning as her second husband, Billy Corkhill.

And it has been revealed that Billy will later appear in more episodes of Hollyoaks as the character heads to the village, but the reasons why have been kept secret.

Hollyoaks Executive Producer Hannah Cheers previously described the episode as a “love letter” to both soaps and expressed her gratitude to Sir Phil Redmond, who created both Hollyoaks and Brookside.

She said: ‘This episode is a love letter to both Hollyoaks and Brookside.

‘Brookside gave birth to Hollyoaks — it grew up on the same site and eventually took over its sets.

‘For everyone at Lime Pictures (originally Mersey TV), Hollyoaks’ history is deeply rooted in Brookside, and its legacy lives on through our crew and, of course, some of our cast.

‘This special feels like both a moving and fitting tribute to our origin story and a chance for fans to revisit much-loved Brookside

‘These iconic Brookside characters are soap archetypes that helped define British TV; soap archetypes that new generations are still discovering now through Hollyoaks.
