Lenny Kravitz revealed that he still felt ‘love’ for his former wife Lisa Bonet during an new interview with People that was published on Friday.
‘It took time, believe me, but she is a part of my life that will never leave my heart, my soul or my spirit,’ he said.
The It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over singer added that a significant portion of his personality was formed ‘because of our experience, because of everything that I was, everything that she was and everything that came together.’
The 59-year-old performer was thrust into the spotlight after he began seeing the actress in the mid-1980s, and they maintained a high-profile romance for nearly a decade before they separated.
The hitmaker – who recently opened up about his desire for marriage – has since stated that, although working through his split was difficult, he was grateful for the time he spent with his former spouse.

‘The love doesn’t leave you, but it has to find a new way to funnel itself into a new life, We consciously wanted to do that,’ he stated.
Kravitz then fondly remembered the period after he and the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated actress welcomed their daughter Zoe, 35, in 1988.
‘We were quite the family. We had our own groove, expression, fashion. It was a beautiful time. The world Zoe’s mom and I were creating, our family, it was about peace, love and spirit,’ he recalled.
The singer acknowledged being viewed as a sex symbol during his time with Bonet, although he stated that he was focused on their relationship and was not concerned with that aspect of his public image.
‘I wasn’t thinking, “Oh, this is sexy.” I was just living and doing. I was married to the most beautiful woman on the planet, incredible inside and out, and I wasn’t paying attention to that,’ he said.
Kravitz and Bonet eloped on her 20th birthday in 1987, and they remained married until 1993, when they amicably divorced.
The singer went on to begin dating model and singer Vanessa Paradis, and they remained together until 1996.

He was subsequently engaged to both Adriana Lima and Nicole Kidman, although neither relationship progressed into a marriage.
Bonet moved on with Jason Momoa, who she began seeing in 2005 and married in 2017.
The performers went on to welcome a daughter named Lola, 16, and a son named Nakoa-Wolf, 15, in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
The pair went on to separate in 2020, and their divorce was finalized last month.
